FIREARM LICENSING

 PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE.

Whether you are interested in recreational shooting or hunting, the basics are where you start. All courses include live instruction from a RCMP Certified Instructor, and hands-on experience with the basics of firearms. The link to the course material you will be going over in class is found here ( manual ). Feel free to study it prior to your course, there is a glossary in the back as well. You are required to purchase the manual for class, they are $22. If you have a tablet or laptop you can bring it to class but you are responsible for keeping it charged and following along.  If you want to bring your laptop or tablet please indicate as such when you send deposit.

If you point a firearm at any person, you automatically fail the exam and will be asked to leave.

There are two courses for firearms safety.

  • The cornerstone of the courses are ACTS and PROVE. In the practical exam you'll need to ACTS and PROVE the firearm multiple times. For example, if the instructor says: "Put the firearm on the table" - you PROVE the firearm safe and then place it on the table. Simple repetitive tasks make for a safer shooter.
  •  The only guaranteed way to keep from accidentally firing your firearm, is to keep your finger off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard.
  • The Canadian Firearms Safety Course for Non-restricted rifles and shotguns and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course for Restricted firearms each have their own exams. Both exams are in the same format. Both exams have a written test and a practical session in which you have to demonstrate safe handling of several firearms in different scenarios. There are 50 questions on the written portion, true or false and multiple choice. You have to get 80% on each to pass.

  • Do not hesitate to ask your instructor questions. Your full understanding is key to not only passing but being a safe firearm owner. Your safety and the safety of those around you is important.
  • Prior to the practical course you will be allowed to practice with the firearms. This is your time to ask questions and familiarize yourself with every type of firearm manipulation. ASK QUESTIONS.
  • The PAL license exam is not easy and can be overwhelming for some. If you haven't had any firearm experience prior to the course, remember you have to start somewhere. You are not alone and we are here to help. An informed society, is a safe society.
  • While handling the firearms, please remember to keep your firearm pointed down range. Be attentive and remember muzzle control.
  •  Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited during the course, you will be asked to leave.

The Non-Restricted course is $150.00 and the Restricted is $150.00 separately. It's $250.00 for both. We teach non restricted on Saturday and restricted on Sunday.
